Heart Disease treatment FAQs
Can exercise really help manage heart disease?
Yes, regular exercise can significantly improve cardiovascular function, reduce risk factors, and enhance overall well-being. It’s important to follow a plan tailored to your specific needs and work with a professional to ensure safety and effectiveness.
What types of exercises are suitable for heart disease management?
Aerobic activities, strength training, and flexibility exercises are generally suitable. Always consult with an exercise physiologist to create a plan that’s right for you.
What could happen if I don’t manage my heart disease properly?
Unmanaged heart disease can lead to serious complications including heart attack, stroke, heart failure, and arrhythmias. The good news is that lifestyle changes — particularly regular exercise — are proven to reduce these risks significantly
Is it safe to exercise if I've had a heart attack or cardiac surgery?
For most people, yes — with appropriate guidance. Cardiac rehabilitation through exercise is a well-established part of recovery. The key is starting with a thorough assessment and building up gradually under supervision. If you’ve recently had a cardiac event, speak with your cardiologist before starting and bring any relevant discharge notes to your first appointment.
Does EP360 see DVA clients with heart disease?
Yes. EP360 is registered to see DVA clients, and heart disease is a condition we regularly support through this pathway. Contact us to discuss your DVA entitlements and how to get started.
Do I need a GP referral to see an exercise physiologist for heart disease?
You can book directly without a referral. However, if your GP provides an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) care plan, Medicare rebates apply — typically up to 5 sessions per calendar year. We work closely with GPs across the Inner West, and your GP can refer you directly through our referral page.
